Strategic Planning that Actually Changes what you do
Many municipalities have strategic plans. The harder question is whether the strategic plan changes what council does on Tuesday night. The program focuses on making strategic planning practical:
- Establish the destination. What kind of community are you trying to build?
- Identify the few things that matter most. A strategic plan cannot be a list of everything government does.
- Connect priorities to budgets. If something is a priority, resources need to follow.
- Establish measurable actions. Who is responsible? What happens next? When will it happen?
- Review progress publicly. A strategy should remain a living document rather than becoming a report that sits on a shelf.
