Ryan’s municipal experience spans more than a decade, beginning with his election to Zorra Township Council in 2014 and continuing through his service as mayor and on Oxford County Council.

His work has involved issues ranging from rural schools and community development to housing, environmental sustainability, taxation, infrastructure, community safety and intergovernmental advocacy.

Projects and initiatives associated with his municipal experience include the redevelopment of the former Maple Leaf Foods property in Thamesford into a municipal and childcare facility, county-wide strategic planning, housing initiatives, rural education advocacy and the development of Safe and Well Oxford, Oxford County’s community safety and well-being framework.

The purpose of the program is not to suggest that every municipality should copy Zorra or Oxford County.

Instead, the experience provides real-world case studies of how small and rural municipalities can approach complex problems.
